Successful operation nets 105 suspects

2017-06-01 06:00

Performing their duties in line with the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) mission to prevent and combat crime, members from the Uitenhage Cluster continued to clamp down on criminal activities in several successful operations that were conducted recently.

High visibility patrols and stop-and-search operations were conducted and resulted in the arrest of 105 suspects in the Uitenhage area.

These suspects were arrested for various crimes, including house robbery, murder, rape, robbery, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft and the possession of suspected stolen goods.

A total of 13 people were arrested for driving under the influence of liquor and 18 suspects were detained for the illegal possession of drugs, while 21 traffic fines were issued, valued at more than R10 500.

As the country celebrates National Child Protection Week this week (from May 28 to June 4), the SAPS called on community members to report any suspicion of child abuse, neglect or exploitation of children.

They also appealed to the community to work with them in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects, tracing of illegal firearms and recovery of stolen property.

Any information can be reported to Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or SMS Crime Line on 32211.
