THE first event of the Legacy Project races presented by Eastern Province Athletics in partnership with Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will be held in Uitenhage this Saturday.

The Uitenhage Human Race, which includes a 30km road race, 10km and 5km family run/walk, will start and finish in the Derek Ferreira Rugby Stadium in Rosedale, Uitenhage.

Top local athlete, Frans Melikhaya, of Ikhamva Athletics Club, who won the 30km Human Race last year in 1:30:54, will not be participating this year. This will leave the front line wide open for an exciting finish.

Michael Mbambani, of Eastern Province Athletics, announced that 30km course has been certified by the International Amateur Athletics Federation and that the 10km route has been changed to an easier out and back course.

Interested clubs and runners are encouraged to check the www.whereinpe.co.za website for more information on the Legacy Project Series, a special league competition for clubs and individuals which has been launched for all 2018 Legacy races.

Race organisers, Sport Impact Events, confirmed that T-shirts will be given to the first 200 entries in the 30km, and prize money and attendance only lucky draw prizes will be awarded at the 10.30 prize giving.

All finishers will receive a medal. Gold medals will be awarded to the top ten men and women, followed by 150 silver and bronze medals to all finishers within the cut-off time. Bronze medals will be awarded to all the 5km finishers.

The cost for 30km run is R80, and R50 for the 10km, runners over 65 years in both 30km and 10km will pay only 50% of race fee.

The temporary licence, required for the 30km and 10km, is R30. The entry fee for the 5km is R20.

Entry forms are available from Brian Bands, The Footballer, Action Sports, Sportsworld, Sportsmans Warehouse in Port Elizabeth or Brocketts Sports in Uitenhage.

Registration and late entries will take place at the Derek Ferreira Rugby Stadium in Uitenhage from 16:30 to 19:00 on Friday, 2 March and from 05:00 on the morning of the race.
