IMPERVIOUS Souls, the movie which was filmed in Uitenhage with basically no budget and the full cast made up of locals, has been nominated to be screened at the forthcoming prestige Comic Con Africa, a multi-genre entertainment, comic and fan convention to be held at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand.

Exactly a year ago, the red carpet was rolled out at Strelitzia school hall for the premiere of this crime drama produced by Dark Ripple Productions with Willem Greeff as the executive producer, director, writer, cameraman as well as actor.

“What astounds us most about the production was not only the mind-blowing local talent, but the community’s overwhelming support and a premiere with 720 people in attendance. It looked as if all in town were at Hollywood,” said Greeff who hails from Uitenhage.

“What surprised us most was the invitation from Comic Con Africa for this Uitenhage-based movie to be screened at the exhibition. At first we thought, no this is a joke!”

Comic Con Africa is an exhibition, running from September 21 to 24, showcasing a larger range of pop culture and entertainment elements across all genres, from animation, gadgets, clothing, video games, webcomics to fantasy novels.

“We are super excited. Apart from Hollywood actors like William Shatner (Captain Kirk from Star Trek) and Daniel Gillies (The Vampire Diaries & The Originals) who will be attending, there will also be famous production set pieces like the couch of the television series Friends as well as items used during the filming of Game of Thrones,” said Greeff.

A handful of the cast will be flying to Johannesburg to attend the Comic Con Africa. Apart from screening Impervious Souls, the cast members will also partake in panel discussions about the movie.

The unexpected reaction towards Impervious Souls, have sparked the idea with the Dark Ripple Production team to do a follow-up of the movie.

“The screenwriting of the follow-up movie, titled Uncut is done. In an effort of raising funds I’ve travelled to Alaska to do some hard-core labour. The earnings were good, and it will give us a good kick start to get the film crew rolling.

“Another achievement is that Impervious Souls has just been released on DVD. It has an age restriction of 16 years owing to the language used,” said Greeff.

DVDs are available by contacting Greeff on the Dark Ripple Productions Facebook page or e-mailing to darkripple.uncut@gmail.com
