RENOVATIONS took quite some time and they’re still adding a few trimmings here and there, but Uitenhage’s newest little treasure trove is up and running.
Carpe Diem Deli & Gifts opened its doors almost three weeks ago on November 8. It has the feel of a beloved farm stall, the character that comes with an old building and friendly staff. What more is needed for a winning recipe?
It promises to become a not-to-miss spot on every tourist’s map with Marina Kleinhans at the helm.
The shop contains little unexpected and beautiful things, and fragrances that will have your mouth watering.
The roosterkoek and game pie freshly baked every morning lure people inside to have a look at all the other items.
Everything from gifts, bottled products, jewellery and baked goods to fresh coffee, banting products, biltong and droëwors can be found here.
“I didn’t want to sit at home.
“I wanted to open a shop that was different, that offers something different from what can usually be found in Uitenhage,” Marina said.
“I like to keep busy. I just need to get a bit “deli fit”. The hours are long,” she laughed.
Carpe Diem offers ample parking at the back and boasts wheelchair-friendly status.
“There are still a few little things here and there that we’ll improve or change, but that comes with time,”
