The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts & Culture, of the Nelson Mandela Metropole met with the Mandela-Bay Baseball Association and several educators to discuss the unification of school baseball in Uitenhage, Despatch, Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas.
The movement is supported by Major League Baseball in conjunction with South African Baseball, with its “A child in sport, is one out of court” program which is fully operational throughout zones in South Africa.
“This is the first time that baseball will be offered as a sporting code at school level in the Uitenhage and Despatch area,” said Terrence Gouws from the Mandela-Bay Baseball Association.
The Mandela Bay senior side ended 3rd in the Promotion League at the Baseball Nationals which were hosted last month.
