Warm weather spikes water demand

2016-03-10 06:00

Water supply to Uitenhage was disrupted earlier this week owing to one of the main water supply pipelines which burst on Monday morning.

The pipeline was isolated but repair teams experienced difficulty in accessing the site owing to its location, steep inclines and inclement weather.

“The recent warm weather resulted in an abnormally high water demand and reservoirs were unable to recover before the pipe burst occurred,” said Kupido Baron, Acting Communications Director of Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

  • This resulted in higher lying suburbs being without water and more areas were affected later on. Water tankers were mobilised and deployed at strategic locations.
