2018-03-15 06:01

The Uitenhage Klawerjas Union finished off last year’s play in good fashion and kicks off this year on an even higher score!

The first competition of the year, the Tom Jones Memorial Trophy, commenced at the Allanridge Civic Centre, and is played every Thursday evening at 19:30.

“There is a significant growth in new members who have joined the Union,” said Patrick Baartman, public relations officer of the Uitenhage Klawerjas Union.

Diamonds Klawerjas Club recruited Michael “Ply” Plaatjies and Rodney “Spekkie” George.

Volkswagen Klawerjas Club was boosted by Brian Nel, Winston Woods and Myron Burgins. Joining Phantoms Klawerjas Club were Samantha Burgins and Eric “Pagad” Petersen.

Tom Jones Memorial Trophy results of last week’s play:

VW KC A took their B team to the cleaners by scoring 150 - 64 points. Diamonds KC on the other hand thrashed Phantoms KC 110 - 58.

In the second game Diamonds KC had the upper hand over a strong VW A side by scoring 92 - 82.

Gillmore Maziena and Dalla Nicholls showed their class to beat Uli von Buchenroder and Jorra Lewis (former Diamonds KC player), scoring 28 - 14.

The Union invites all interested in klawerjas to join any of its clubs. They are especially inviting young players as well as women to join the game.
