Cape Town – The Parow Shopping Centre was briefly closed on Tuesday afternoon after shots were fired during an armed robbery of a cellular phone shop, Western Cape police said.

At roughly 15:30, two unidentified men entered the shop and held up the staff, threatening employees, spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk told News24.

Van Wyk said the robbers had taken an undisclosed number of cellphones.

The robbers opened fire while fleeing the scene. One person was injured in the arm, but it was not clear whether they were a robber or an innocent bystander.

No additional injuries have been reported.

Police had been deployed to the scene for further investigation.
