Vanderbijlpark – An accident near Vanderbijlpark left one person dead while two others were injured on Friday afternoon.

The accident happened on the N1 near the Vanderbijlpark off-ramp when a vehicle rear-ended another vehicle.

According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, paramedics arrived at the scene to find the body of a man in his 30's lying in the middle of the slow lane.

"Assessments showed that the man had sustained numerous, fatal injuries. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene."

Two other people were injured, one critically. They were treated on the scene, before being transported to hospital.

Local authorities would be conducting an investigation into the cause of the collision.
