Cape Town – A 10-day-old baby has been stolen from Worcester Hospital in the Western Cape, police said on Friday.

The baby went missing during visiting hours on Thursday around 19:50, Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said.

The baby was wearing a blue crawler and was wrapped in a yellow and blue fleece blanket at the time.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the abduction, Rexwana said, calling for members of the public to come forward urgently with any information.

The incident occurred exactly a year since 19-year-old Zephany Nurse was found.

Nurse was abducted from the Groote Schuur Hospital in 1997 and found on February 25, 2015.

A 51-year-old woman was arrested and is standing trial for the alleged kidnapping.

The matter came to light when Nurse's biological sister, who is four years younger, told her parents that a matric girl at her school bore a striking resemblance to her and her parents.

When the parents discovered the girl had the same birthday as their missing child, they reported it to police. DNA tests confirmed the teen was their daughter.
