Mbombela – Ten people died and five were seriously injured when their taxi collided with three cows near Mbombela on Friday evening.

Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety spokesperson Joseph Mabuza said the accident had occurred at Nsumbeni R538 Road between Hazyview and White River at around 22:30.

The vehicle caught alight following the crash, with occupants still inside.

Mabuza said 10 occupants died in the fire and were burnt beyond recognition. Among those killed were three children.

Five seriously injured patients were transported to Matikwane Hospital.

He said the occupants had apparently been travelling to a church service.
