Port Elizabeth – Ten suspects are expected in the Libode Magistrate's Court on Friday in connection with the murder of four alleged stock thieves.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said the four men were stabbed and hacked to death with knives in Mphangana on Monday.

It is alleged that they were caught attempting to steal cattle.

Fatyela said no witnesses had come forward, but police investigations had led to the 10 men being arrested on Wednesday.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 47, were arrested in Mphangana and face charges of kidnapping and murder.

Eastern Cape police commissioner Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga warned that taking the law into one’s own hands was a criminal offence.

"They will be arrested, no matter how they try and justify their actions. Community members who have information on crime or the whereabouts of suspects, must contact their local police and inform them of their suspicions. There is no other option," she said.
