Johannesburg - Eleven people have died on North West roads since the beginning of Easter, the North West department of human settlements and public safety says.

Department spokesperson Simon Lesolang Mmope said on Sunday that in the latest accident, two pedestrians were hit by a car in Muilskraal outside Klerksdorp.

"According to police the two were walking in the middle of the road in the dark when the unfortunate accident happened."

The man and woman were allegedly walking with two children.

The children escaped unharmed.

Earlier on Sunday a man died after his car left the road and crashed into two trees.

He had lost control of the car at a sharp bend near Klerksdorp.

On Saturday police had reported that eight people had died since the start of the Easter weekend.
