Johannesburg - Eleven men appeared in the Bityi Periodical Court for the murders of two men near Mthatha, Eastern Cape police said on Saturday.

Lieutenant-Col Mzukisi Fatyela said the men, charged with murder and the kidnapping of a 40-year-old man, appeared in court on Friday.

The case was postponed to January 19 for bail applications.

Fatyela said police arrested 10 of the men between Tuesday and Wednesday, with the last man arrested on Thursday.

Police were searching for the 40-year-old man, who was kidnapped on Monday, when they discovered the body of the 37-year-old man in a veld near the Luqolweni informal settlement, 157km west of Mthatha, on Tuesday.

The 40-year-old man's body was later found on Wednesday.

Fatyela said the deaths were suspected to be linked.

The unfortunate fact is that this type of crime is becoming a daily occurance here.

And to make things worse-it happens SO often that people seem to take it as part of their daily lives! Life is so prescious and should be cherished but it gets taken at the drop of a hat!

Two facts need to be corrected on the story: 1. Qolweni is a village not an informal settlement, 2. The village is 57km west of Mthatha not 157. If it was, then it no longer falls under the jurisdiction of the Bityi Policing Area and the the Bityi Periodical Court mentioned in the article.
