Pretoria - Tshwane metro police say another two officers are being investigated for allegedly escorting Gupta wedding guests from Waterkloof Air Force Base to Sun City last week, bringing the total number to 11.

This emerged at a media briefing on Friday.

The two officers will be served with letters of intention to suspend them, and will be suspended with full pay if they fail to provide the department with reasons why they should not be suspended, said Tshwane Metro Police spokesperson Console Tleane.

Eight officers have already been served with such letters, while the ninth is in hospital. The 48-hour deadline for them to answer has expired, and they will have their badges and firearms seized.

The officers will be treated as innocent until proven otherwise.

Tleane added that the officers were not part of the VIP transport unit.

Tleane said it appears the officers violated municipal policies which prohibit private work without permission. He stated on record that the chief of police did not grant any member permission to engage in such private work.

The officers are believed to have fitted blue lights and false number plates to their private vehicles in order to escort guests to Sun City for the Gupta family wedding.
