12 more children in Jub Jub crash

2012-02-21 14:31

Johannesburg - Twelve more children have been linked to the 2010 car crash involving musician Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye, the Protea Magistrate's Court heard on Tuesday.

Defence witness Benjamin Maseko told the court he was ferrying twelve schoolchildren to their homes in the Protea area in Soweto when he crashed into a curb in order to avoid a speeding blue Mini Cooper.

The oncoming Mini Cooper was trying to overtake a grey Mini Cooper at high speed along Mdlalose Drive, between Protea North and Protea Glen.

Maarohanye and co-accused Themba Tshabalala allegedly ploughed into another group of schoolchildren on March 8 2010 while racing their Mini Coopers.

Four of the children were killed and two others were severely injured.

This led to Maarohanye and Tshabalala facing charges of murder, attempted murder, and reckless and negligent driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The trial was postponed to Wednesday to allow Maseko to pick up his load of schoolchildren, who included Grade R pupils, on time.

He is expected to be cross-examined when he takes the stand on Wednesday.

What a circus, how can anybody take these folks seriously....must be the dumbest people on earth, and we're stuck with them.

      Jay - 2012-02-21 14:51

      stupid !

  • Gerhard - 2012-02-21 14:36

Suddenly another 12 appear out of the woodwork. Are they trying to cash in on something? I also dented my wheel that day when I saw a Mini Cooper, I also want in. I'm not defending Jub Jub at all but where was this evidence before?

      procold2 - 2012-02-21 14:46

it was there ,no one saw it though

      Muzi - 2012-02-21 14:51

I gree with u Gerhard, why is this evidence coming through now? someone is trying to cash in here!!!!!!!!!!! the law of this country is very unfair and must be revisited.

  • Marion - 2012-02-21 14:47

They say this is the defence witness, not prosecution.

      Grant - 2012-02-21 15:10

Maybe the defence is trying to imply that, if the witness could get out of the way quick enough, that it was therefore the kids' own faults for being hit. "My client is innocent, your Honour! You see...those kids were simply plotting a mass suicide, and my client is the victim here!" Sounds about right?

      kiri - 2012-02-21 16:41

they simply jumped in front of me!

  • Rainbow - 2012-02-21 14:53

When are they going to lock this man ( jub jub) up and throw away the key. This case has gone on for too long now. He is a murderer and nothing is going to change that.

  • Phumi - 2012-02-21 14:54

At some stage we need some kind of closure to this matter and it has been dragging for long. Jub Jub, Tshabala and the victims family must have some kind of a TRC to put an end to this. Everytime they attend court it opens old wounds to the family and the children who witness this carnage that day. Surely Jub Jub has shown remorse and I am sure he will be willing to be under correctional supervision to become an ambassador for the campaing against alcahol and drug abuse for teenagers. Him going to jail offers no one any justice and peace at heart!

      Sean - 2012-02-21 16:01

Ok cool, I will be round at you spot tonight. let me take out oh, I dunno, 5 of your family members. Tomorrow I will beg for forgiveness and then you can forget the past and carry on with your life. We cool with that.

  • godesha - 2012-02-21 14:54

When is this circus going to come to an end? Goodness me, it has been going on forever.

  • Rudluv7 - 2012-02-21 14:57

when is this scumbag going to jail, the country is not about to forget anytime soon..

  • Yolanda - 2012-02-21 14:57

This case started in 2010 and this defence witness decides to come forward with this new information in 2012?? it seems a bit dodgy. *Not that i don't want Jub Jub and friend to rot in jail*

      Ryan - 2012-02-21 15:17

This is Jub Jub's witness. If it was a state witness the evidence would have been heard already. He is going to testify in Jub Jub's favour I reckon to say that it was not him (JJ) that was on the wrong side of the road, but rather the other guy. That way Jub Jub could get cleared of the actual murder charge.

  • Welile Nokuthula Ndlovu - 2012-02-21 15:15

And then why does counsel come up with this now and he is messing an already messed up defence case. am sure the state prosecutor is sharpening his pencils with excitement as defence contradicts the version already placed before court. I wonder what Jub Jub is trying to achieve now incriminating his friend worse they'll be together once sentenced who's gonna scrub his back in jail.

  • Mike - 2012-02-21 15:18

How much more tax money must be wasted? How many more time of productive court time should be deviated for more serious crimes? Now; either he has a brilliant lawyer, or the media is running out of publicity! Maybe some-one should start a legitimate legal company where you can donate 50 cents a month to? And when these tax wasters comes around? They get nailed on day 1!!

  • Shirley - 2012-02-21 15:21

This is a waste of time, money and oxygen. This idiot along with his friend has NO remorse just denial. Lock him up and be done! This is not a fair trial-its a mockery of justice and a right royal circus!

  • thabo.vilakazi - 2012-02-21 15:32

he is going to walk free useless justice system, thats why all these little evidence is coming through

  • ReunionofIntelligentMinds - 2012-02-21 15:32

It would make sense if this was the prosecution witness and they left the ace card for last, not giving time for jub jub's defence to come up with a story again.

      Barefoot - 2012-02-21 17:21

Unfortunately in court you can't bring a surprise witness out of the blue like in the movies- the witness is entered into the documents which are know by both the defense and the prosecutor

  • Thando - 2012-02-21 15:44

God his not stupid though!! He will eventually expose everyone who is wrong.

  • Bert - 2012-02-21 16:31

If I'm reading this properly, how can Maseko be a defence witness? Surely with evidence like this, he'd be a witness for the prosecution.

  • ray.cornelissen - 2012-02-22 08:28

Getting away with murder is nothing new. Just another newspaper headline...which will soon be forgotten. This is South-Africa; as taxpayers we simply waste money on a justice system that doesn't function because we are obligated to. Hierdie land sien lankal al sy gat.
