12 shacks destroyed in Joburg fire

Johannesburg - Twelve shacks were razed when a fire broke out in Zandspruit on Thursday, Johannesburg emergency services said.

The fire broke out around 06:00, but had since been extinguished, spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was being investigated.

Disaster management officials had been sent to the area to help. People in informal settlements were urged to exercise caution when using heating and lighting appliances.
