Johannesburg - Thirteen children were injured when a bakkie transporting them to school crashed into a wall in Benoni, east of Johannesburg, on Wednesday morning, paramedics said.

The bakkie had left the road and crashed through a wall in Albert Street in Rynsoord, Benoni, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

"Paramedics assessed the children and found that 13 of them, aged between 8 and 12, had sustained minor to moderate injuries. Fortunately no-one had sustained any serious injuries."

The children were taken to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.

"It is understood that the driver of the vehicle allegedly lost control, causing the vehicle to crash through a residence's wall and come to rest against a parked light motor vehicle," said Meiring.

"The bakkie had apparently been transporting numerous children to school when the collision occurred."
