Cape Town - A total of 146 police officers have been murdered
while off-duty over the past three years, Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko
said on Friday.
In a written reply to a parliamentary question, he said
43 were killed in 2011/12, 55 in 2012/13, and 48 in 2013/14.
On what steps had been taken to prevent such killings, he
said a two-week tactical policing course had been introduced in 2012.
"In addition to this, refresher training is
presented to public order police members and tactical response team
members."
Other preventative measures had also been put in place,
Nhleko said.
