168 arrested in Soweto

Johannesburg - A total of 168 people were arrested across Soweto for various crimes during the weekend, Gauteng police said on Sunday.

They were charged for crimes ranging from murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, illegal sale of alcohol to drunk driving and possession of stolen motor vehicles.

"This was part of a weekend operation that started on Friday and ended today [Sunday]," said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

The suspects were expected to appear at various courts on Monday.

      Soweto is huge dear; the last stats stated that over a million people stay there, but it is possible that over twice that number stay there. It is not a suburb

    funny they have a time-frame for these sorts of operations, aren't the police suppose to be operating 24/7? Or am i just a big dummy?

      SA riddled with crime and ratio black/white are pretty even so I reckon the whole country should get their act together, all races inclusive. With all due respect poverty leads to crime! Finish and klaar.

    When will the Police go to Sandton and arrest drunk drivers there. They only go to townships. Let the Cops come to BigBay here in Cape Town, there are lots of drunkards in Pubs around the Beach. Ohh I forgot they wear Springbok T-Shirts and Stormers T-Shirts, but if you dare wear a Kaizer Chiefs or Pirates Supporters t-shirts you are in trouble.
