2 arrested for hijacking in Dobsonville

Johannesburg - Two people have been arrested in Dobsonville, Soweto following the hijacking of a bakkie transporting electronic equipment, police said on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the bakkie was hijacked in Krugersdorp in the early hours of Christmas day. It was later seen in the vicinity of Soweto.

"Police spotted the vehicle as it entered Soweto. Police approached one suspect pulled out firearm. Police shot and the suspect was shot and injured. He was transported to hospital for treatment," he said.

Police recovered one firearm and arrested two people. They were expected to appear in Court on 29 December.
