2 Cape Town men injured in fall from train

Cape Town - Two men have been hospitalised after falling from a moving train during peak hours between Bellville and Kuils River stations, Metrorail confirmed on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Riana Scott said an incident of "dangerous conduct" occurred at 17:25 on Monday.

"[They] were travelling on the buffer between two carriages when they fell off," she said.

Social media posts claiming that the two had died were inaccurate, said Scott. Both were injured and taken to Kuils River Hospital for treatment.

A witness who was in the "very full" train said he understood that three people had fallen off.

"People were shouting 'daar val hulle!' (there they fall) when it happened. The train had been travelling at quite a speed and had taken a bend when they fell."

The witness said it appeared that one man had lost his footing and had pulled the other men with him as he fell.

"We all assumed that they died [as] a Cape Town train went past just two minutes later," the commuter said.

Scott cautioned commuters to "refrain from endangering their lives" by travelling between carriages.
