Cape Town - A man lay dead in his vehicle on the side of a road in Carletonville on Saturday morning after a rollover accident, one of two people to die in three accidents in the area, paramedics said.

Spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics found him trapped inside the vehicle which was lying on its roof.

"Paramedics climbed inside the vehicle and found that the man had already succumbed to his multiple fatal injuries," said Meiring.

"Unfortunately, nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead on scene."

Two other men believed to have been ejected from the vehicle were found and treated for minor injuries.

They were taken to hospital for further treatment.

In a second accident, a truck and sedan crashed into each other, killing the driver of the sedan. The truck driver survived the crash.

And in a third accident on Saturday morning, a man in his 20s was critically injured after two light motor vehicles crashed at in intersection, also in Carletonville.

Paramedics arrived on the scene at 03:30 and found the man motionless inside the vehicle.

He was removed with the help of the Jaws of Life and given advanced life support interventions.

He was airlifted to hospital for urgent treatment. Meiring said the driver of the second vehicle was not injured.
