Polokwane - Two people have been killed and three injured in an accident near the Kranskop toll plaza on the N1 in Limpopo, paramedics said on Monday.

The driver of a bakkie travelling towards Pretoria lost control and rolled the bakkie across the highway, colliding with another bakkie and a car, ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said.

"The driver who was the only occupant of the vehicle was ejected as the vehicle rolled and he was left with critical injuries."

Paramedics arrived on scene and began treating the man, but his condition deteriorated and he was declared dead on the scene.

The driver of the second bakkie suffered "severe" injuries as a result of the accident and died before paramedics arrived on scene.

"A family travelling in the [car] that was the third vehicle involved was fortunate to have come out of the collision with minor or moderate injuries only," said Jackson.

"The wife and child suffered minor injuries, while the father who was driving suffered moderate injuries."

The three were treated for their injuries on the scene and taken to hospital by local emergency services in a stable condition.

The accident took place at about 19:00 on Sunday, 10km from the toll plaza, Jackson said.

Police were investigating.
