Johannesburg - Two men have been arrested for stabbing a man to death and assaulting his brother in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, police said on Monday.

Xolani Mbhele, 21, was at a local tavern with his brother when an argument broke out between them and two men on Sunday morning, said Captain Thulani Zwane.

"Mbhele and his brother were stabbed with a sharp instrument, and both sustained injuries... during the argument," he said.

They were taken by ambulance to a local hospital where Mbhele was certified dead on arrival from neck and face wounds.

His brother, who was stabbed in the hand, was discharged after receiving medical treatment.

Two men, aged 22 and 24, were later arrested and detained at the Umlazi police station.

They were expected to appear in the Umlazi Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, on charges of murder and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
