Johannesburg - Two people have been arrested by Johannesburg metro police and the SAPS for allegedly committing house robberies in the Soweto area while wearing both metro police and SAPS uniforms.

Johannesburg metro police Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the arrests, which happened on Saturday night, came about through a tip-off.

"Officers spotted the suspects at a Sasol filling station in Midway, and followed them to Kubayi Street in Chiawelo, where one of the suspects jumped out of the car and pointed a firearm at officers, who shot him in the left leg."

The alleged robber shot by police was under police guard at Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital, while the other robber was being held at Moroko police station.

The two were expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court soon.
