Bloemfontein – Two people were killed and one person was badly assaulted in separate incidents in Botshabelo, outside Bloemfontein, Free State police said on Tuesday.

Constable Peter Kareli said a 59-year-old man was shot seven times near a bus depot on Monday morning.

The man was found with gunshot wounds to his neck, legs, and abdomen, while his livestock grazed near his lifeless body, Kareli said.

His cellphone and other personal items were found on the scene. A case of murder was opened.

On the same day, police and community members discovered a woman’s body near the N8 highway.

"Residents at Botshabelo saw a man pushing something in a wheelbarrow at 02:00, heading towards the mountain... a search party between community members and the police was activated. During the search, a shallow grave was discovered," he said.

In another incident, a family was attacked on Saturday evening with a beer bottle.

"The suspects found the family of five in their locked house and started breaking all windows and damaging the door to gain entrance," Kareli said.

When they gained entry to the house, the two suspects stabbed a 30-year-old man three times in his back. The man was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

No arrests had been made yet.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Detective Colonel Mohlophei Motingoe on 082 784 4505.
