2 killed in Gauteng 3-vehicle collision

Johannesburg – Two people were killed and two others injured on Friday evening after a three-vehicle collision on the M1 Highway opposite the Southgate Shopping Centre in Mondeor, Gauteng paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics arrived at the scene and found the north side of the highway completely blocked by wrecked vehicles and debris.

"It is understood that one of the light motor vehicles had crashed over the barrier from the opposite direction, rolling into an oncoming taxi and light motor vehicle," Meiring said.

He said on inspection, paramedics discovered two lifeless bodies lying inside the car.

Unfortunately, both men had already succumbed to their multiple fatal injuries. The men were declared dead at the scene.

Two other men sustained critical injuries. One of the injured was the driver of the taxi and the other was the driver of an overturned bakkie that was part of the accident.

Paramedics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support. They were taken to hospital for treatment.
The cause of the collision was unknown. Police were investigating further.
