Cape Town – Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a motor vehicle and a school bus in the Southern Cape on Monday afternoon, an official confirmed.

A driver and passenger in a Corsa were killed in the crash, between Gansbaai and Stanford, around 14:40, said provincial traffic spokesperson Jacques Mostert.

The 60-seater school bus, which was believed to have been contracted by a local primary school, was empty at the time, except for the driver.

The bus driver was not injured.

Mostert said it was unclear what had caused the crash.

"As we speak they are moving one body out of the light motor vehicle. The R43 is still closed," he said.
