Johannesburg - Two people died and 26 others were injured in an accident on the N1 freeway near Musina on Saturday, Limpopo police said.

The incident happened at 09:00 near the Hendrik Verwoed Bridge when an overloaded bakkie lost control, said spokesperson Captain Maano Sadike.

Two young women, aged 17 and 22, died on impact. Mourners returning from a funeral were travelling in the bakkie.

Police were investigating and unable to say how 28 people fitted in the bakkie.

The injured were taken to Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Does the driver get a badge of honour for over-loading his bakkie? And WHERE WERE THE TRAFFIC POLICE?????????????? If South Africa had TRAFFIC POLICE a huge number of road deaths and offences would not be happening. But with no law enforcement SA is in a downward spiral to total anarchy. Obviously I blame the driver for their deaths but I also blame the government and municipal authorities for not providing TRAFFIC OFFICIALS to keep our roads safe and enforce LAW on the roads.

I don't think you understand what the traffic police do in this country. They hide in bushes all over South africa trapping people doing 71kph in 60kph do know in this country that nothing kills on our roads other than speed?? I say ever so sarcastically. Not that I condone speeding but come on!

The cops should worry about things like this and leave bikers alone!!!

the driver lost control not the the driver did not die... ban him for driving for 3 years and endorse his licence....then make him redo his drivers licence all over again
