Cape Town – A motorist was killed after he lost control of his car and crashed into a tree on Saturday night in Carletonville, Gauteng, paramedics said.

The 24-year-old man was found trapped in the vehicle, and the jaws of life were used to free him.

ER 24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said on Sunday the man was declared dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian was killed after he was knocked over in a hit and run accident in Edendale, KwaZulu-Natal.

 He was declared dead at the scene, Bodasing said.

In Fischer Road, KwaZulu-Natal, 16 people were injured when a taxi rolled and crashed into an electricity pole.

The taxi rolled 200m before coming to a stop, and some passengers were ejected, ER24 said.

 Patients were treated on scene and transported to various hospitals, Bodasing said.

The area was left with no electricity in the aftermath of the accident, paramedics said.

On Sunday morning, five people were injure, two critically, following a head on collision on the N3 highway by the Vosloorus, Gauteng.

All patients were treated at the scene before they were transported to various hospitals, Bodasing said.

The cause of all the accidents was unknown.
