Durban - Two more bodies have been recovered after a storm in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, bringing the confirmed death toll to seven, the provincial co-operative governance department said on Thursday.

"Two bodies were found in a river near KwaSenge in Kranskop on Wednesday," spokesperson Lennox Mabaso said.

The two people found dead were believed to have gone missing, with two others, in the heavy storm in uMsinga and uMvoti on December 31.

Mabaso estimated that about 300 houses were destroyed during the storm.

Five people were found dead immediately afterwards. One of them had been struck by lightning.

Co-operative governance MEC Nomusa Dube said the search for the two missing people was continuing.

"We are saddened about the deaths, but we are also relieved that they have been found as this will allow their families to find closure," she said.
