Pretoria - The owner and manager of two separate Pretoria West businesses were shot dead shortly after each other in two business robberies on Monday.

Netwerk24's George Germishuys reported on Tuesday that the modus operandi for the two robberies was exactly the same.

Robbers first shot Louis du Toit, 29, the manager of Pretoria Hyper Chicken & Meat, with a single shot before making off with R140 000 in cash. He was reportedly on his way to the bank to deposit the cash, accompanied by a security guard, when he was shot.

His wife, Antoinette, cried hysterically when she saw his body on the pavement outside the butchery. He had a 2-year-old daughter.

A woman who joined the crowd at the scene said Du Toit regularly took food to a nearby homeless shelter where she lives, adding that the area will be poorer without him.

Three robbers escaped in a red Toyota Corolla.

Robbery at spares shop

A few hours later, three gunmen walked into Toyco Motor Spares in Pretoria West and demanded money from the cashier.

Business owner Jury Hayes was outside the store and walked in to see the robbers. He apparently turned around and was shot in the back. He died at the scene.

The robbers took money and fled in a white Toyota Corolla.

Police are investigating both incidents.
