Cape Town - Two suspects were arrested on multiple charges after police pulled them over in Stanford in an allegedly hijacked vehicle and found perlemoen and an illegal gun inside.

The suspects, aged 43 and 26, are expected to appear in the Hermanus Magistrate's Court on Monday.

They were arrested late on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut said Stanford police decided to stop and search a light delivery vehicle, a Ford.

He said they discovered 6 507 perlemoen packed into 43 bags, a 9mm firearm with the serial number removed and 17 rounds of ammunition.

"Further investigation led to the discovery that the vehicle was hijacked in Muizenberg during October this year," Traut said.

The suspects face charges including hijacking, illegal possession of ammunition and illegal possession of perlemoen.
