Johannesburg - Twenty five people were injured when two taxis collided late on Wednesday afternoon along Saunders Avenue in Isipingo Hills, southern Durban, paramedics said.

"Netcare 911 paramedics and the fire department arrived at the scene and found the roadway obstructed with accident debris and the twisted frames of the vehicle," Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said.

"Some of the injured were still trapped in the wreckage. After triaging, it was found that 25 sustained injuries ranging from serious to minor."

While firemen used the Jaws of Life to free the injured, medics worked to stabilise them before they were transported to various hospitals.

The cause of the accident would be investigated by police, Botha said.
