Johannesburg - Six drivers were arrested for speeding on the N1 north near Roodepoort on Sunday, said Johannesburg metro police.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said police were trapping offenders at the 14th Avenue offramp between 06:00 and 16:00.

"The fastest speed recorded was 194 km/h by the rider of a Honda motorbike," Minnaar said.

The motorists were detained at Honeydew police station and would appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Monday.

In other police operations in Johannesburg over the weekend, Minnaar said 271 drunken drivers were arrested.

"Road blocks were set up on Friday night in Brixton, Jeppe and Sophiatown," he said.

"On Saturday night, they were in Cleveland, Parkview and again in Brixton."

Those arrested would appear in different Johannesburg courts on Monday and Tuesday.
