Johannesburg - A second man has been arrested in connection with the murder of the ANC's councillor in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

The 40-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday. A 9mm pistol was found in his possession, said Colonel Jay Naicker.

He had been charges with the murders of councillor Wandile Mkhize and his friend Nhlakanipho Shabane, 24, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

He will appear in the Ramsgate Magistrate's Court in Thursday.

Mkhize was shot dead in a drive-by shooting near his home in Manaba, Margate, on July 30. Shabane, who was with him at the time, died later in hospital.

Another man, who is accused of conspiring to murder Mkhize, appeared in court on Tuesday. Dumisani Skhakhane, 33, would appear again on September 5.
