Johannesburg - Three people have been arrested for allegedly robbing a Spar store in Alberton, on the East Rand, bringing the total number of arrests in the incident to five, Gauteng police said on Friday.

Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said a group of 10 men robbed the store at gunpoint on Wednesday.

Two men were arrested at the scene, while the rest escaped with an undisclosed amount of money. One of the men was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The two led police to three of their alleged accomplices who were arrested on Thursday night.

"The five will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's court today [Friday]," Makhubela said.

They were charged with robbery, possession of illegal firearms, and possession of stolen money.

The other five men were still at large.
