Jane Furse - Three men were arrested after a foiled cash-in-transit robbery in Jane Furse, Limpopo, police said on Sunday.

Police acted on information about a possible robbery and deployed officers and a helicopter, Lieutenant Moatshe Ngoepe said.

When police spotted a suspected vehicle and tried to stop it, the occupants allegedly opened fire.

Police returned fire, injuring two suspects, who were taken into custody. A third suspect handed himself over at the Polokwane police station.

Ngoepe said other suspects fled the scene and managed to evade arrest.

An AK47 with one magazine and eight rounds of ammunition, a 9mm pistol and a hijacked vehicle were confiscated.

One of the suspects was out on bail for a kidnapping case at Westenberg outside Polokwane and an attempted murder case.

Another suspect is allegedly connected to several cases of hijackings.

The trio face charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of illegal firearms and ammunition. They are expected to appear in court soon.
