Rustenburg - Three men were arrested after they robbed a church congregation, and shot and wounded four of them, outside Rustenburg along the R510 on Sunday.

Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko said two men, aged 31 and 35, were arrested in Boitekong in the early hours of Monday morning.

Moleka said a third man, aged 31, was arrested on Sunday.

"It is alleged that three suspects, two of them armed with firearms, fired several shots inside the church and robbed congregants of their belongings, including cellphones, pair of sunglasses and a wallet," Moleka said.

Four people sustained gunshots wounds.

The three men fled on foot, but one of them was caught by members of the congregation.

He was found in possession of 20 cellphones.

They will appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday to face a charge of robbery.
