Cape Town - Three people were arrested and six firearms confiscated in separate incidents in Manenberg, Western Cape police said on Thursday.

A 31-year-old man was arrested near Pam Court on Wednesday after being found with an illegal firearm, Captain FC van Wyk said in a statement.

In a second incident, a 35-year-old man was arrested after being stopped on the N2. The man allegedly tried to hide four firearms and ammunition in a bag under his car after being pulled over.

Another man, 21, was seen running toward police after reports of gunfire near Rio Grande Road. The man threw something down when he saw the officers.

A 9mm pistol with four live rounds was found, and the man was arrested.

All three would appear in the Athlone Magistrates' Court this week on gun-related charges.

“The SAPS and their partners in the city police work hard to prevent illegal firearms from being used in the commission of crime,” Van Wyk said.
