3 awaiting trial prisoners escape in KZN

Three awaiting trial prisoners have escaped from police custody in Ekombe, KwaZulu-Natal, police said on Friday.

Two were awaiting trial for murder and the third was in custody in connection with house robbery allegations.

They are Nhlakanipho Nunuzana Dubazane, 27, and Mzikayise Khanyile, 38, who have both been charged with murder, and Lindelani Majola, 19, who was in custody for house robbery.

They escaped from the cells at the Ekombe police station on April 18.

"Police are investigating how the suspects escaped. They are regarded as dangerous and we are appealing to the community to assist by giving information to the police about their whereabouts," Captain Nqobile Gwala said.

She encouraged anyone aware of their whereabouts to contact any local police station or to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
