Johannesburg - Three boys died when a fire broke out at their home in Soweto on Wednesday, Johannesburg emergency management services said.

EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said the three brothers, aged between 3 and 10 years, burnt to death in a fire which broke out around 01:00 on Wednesday.

Its not poverty that killed them here, its negligence. People should understand that heaters and such devices should never be left on, be they electrical or otherwise, they are dangerous! RIP. Safety first - heating later, please people, people die every winter due to negligence. Even during last weeks cold spell, I only had heating in the leaving room and switched it off when going to bed - and we have no electrical blankets either, as I am not sure about the safety of those things!

This has nothing to do with poverty. Read the article before making stupid comments

@ lunde - fires do raze even mansions, its all about accidents/negligence. But its true, the shacks are more prone to fires. My view is , government should stop this depency tendency thats going on around the country, where able people, wake up, start shacks , and demand free houses, it is pure insanity. As a man, you should strive to better yourself, not aim below par and await help. AS per the deaths,# youngs souls snatched away, innocent souls. May their souls rest in peace.

Horrible and horrendous.RIP in peace little ones.I just don't understand how the parents got out and not the children.I would go first for my kids to get them safe.

It depends on how the fire spreads, guys!

Prayers are with the parents, how does a parent come back from this! My heart is breaking for them. May God bless them and strengthen them. Fires are killing people at alarming rates this past couple of weeks and I wish we would take greater care when trying to keep ourselves warm in this freezing weather.

How terribly sad .We do not understand the why's only that God has received those children into his hands and that He is present with the parents. Our prayers are ongoing.

If you go and read on the IOL website it states that the father of the three kids set the house alight to kill himself and his family

  • zzwane2 - 2012-06-21 09:38

Apparently the father was fighting with the mother and he poured petrol over them and the mother survived cause he was fighting to open the door that locked
