Johannesburg - Three men have been arrested for possession of suspected counterfeit bank notes worth an estimated R1m in Tsakane on the East Rand, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

Police conducting a stop-and-search operation on Tuesday afternoon saw the men alighting from a minibus taxi, Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale said.

"While searching the trio's luggage, the officers found R100 notes packed inside two small boxes."

The men, in their 50s, would face charges of possession of suspected counterfeit banknotes in the Brakpan Magistrate's Court soon.

    Thumbs up to the police.

Reluctantly agree. A pity this is the exception, not the rule.

hope they find out who made it!

Now that idea would require some actual work and thinking. You have better luck bribing someone at Lottery Fund to win the Lotto. Anyone for a R100 bill - only R50 cash???

      Impi - 2011-11-30 13:51

Me too! As the old saying goes, if you can't beat them, join them! They weren't doing anything wrong, with this government in power and all the corruption they condone, this is a frivolous little matter compared to the grand scale theft that is being committed as we sit here this moment! At the rate our currency is declining we might all have to start printing our money one of these days.

  • John - 2011-11-30 13:54

agreed but how can they arrest somebody for "in possession of suspected counterfeit banknotes" either they are real or not, it is not rocket science to tell the differance.

      Impi - 2011-11-30 13:59

LOL procold2. You don't think this could be another news flash the ANC has paid for? We now know they pay journalists to write favourable things about them and this could be another press release to calm us down thinking they are actually doing something about crime. Not corruption though. They think if they fire a minister or two every few years they can merrily continue stealing and we won't notice.

Nowadays the counterfeit notes are of better quality than the real ones. The crooks have more pride in their work then the SA public servants.

Your comment sounds so possible it's scary.

      Pieter Joost Oostdam - 2011-11-30 17:42

Ok so you can make good fake money, what is the maximum amount you can walk around with without them thinking it's fake

  • mikealetta - 2011-11-30 14:20

If some one posseses the skills and equipment to manufacture money, what are they doing making Rands, it would make more sense to manufacture a currency with some real value

      Impi - 2011-11-30 15:26

That was a brilliant idea! We should print Dollars and exchange them in Zimbabwe!

  • Thulisa - 2011-11-30 14:37

At least it's not a robbery taking place in someone's house where a woman is raped and a husband shot in the head! I hope more TSOTSIES can start being ceative and print their own money and stop house robberies! Anything is better than that.........

  • Tshivhombela Fhatuwani - 2011-11-30 14:51

Better than corruption. At least they are not desperadoes. They must locate these money mills.

I miss him too. This country hasn't had this much fun in a long time! He was entertaining and actually is his weird way he is a ray of sunshine! Seriously now. Pity he wasn't controlled by someone with a brain, because this could have defined him as a true revolutionary and he could have turned into the man of the century. This country needs someone with his gung-ho personality and fearlessness to save it from the unscrupulous thieves running it now. But please not another Mugabe!

      Maai - 2011-11-30 16:46

@Impi problem is he is as big a thief as any of them. I wouldnt describe him as a ray of sunshine, more like a stream of urine.

      StarStruck - 2011-11-30 17:40

@Maai - LOL!! That guy never learned that you don't bite the hand that feeds you. If he doesn't know it by now he could be classified (according to Science) as the missing link between Apes and modern day humans, LOL!!

  • Carl - 2011-12-02 11:52

Thanks for the laugh! How on earth can counterfeit notes be "worth an estimated R1m"? They can have a face value, but surele it's worthless!

  • Nikki Bodenstein - 2011-12-02 19:37

Officer I don't know how that got in my suitcase! Lol
