3 car pileup leaves 3 dead in Durban

Johannesburg - Three people died when two cars and a bakkie collided on Inanda Road, between Waterfall and Crestholme in Durban on Saturday, paramedics said.

A car was making a U-turn when it was struck by the bakkie at about 11:00, ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said.

The three passengers in the car died and the driver of the bakkie sustained moderate injuries.

A second car drove into the back of the bakkie in an attempt to avoid the accident. No one was injured.

The road was closed to traffic and emergency services were at the scene, said Banks.

More senseless road deaths due to some ignoramus making a dangerous U-Turn....!

      Jan - 2012-06-02 18:00

Thats a bit judgmental considering you weren't there nor saw it. Doesnt say anything in the article that it was an ILLEGAL U-Turn. Last time I checked u-turns are still LEGAL unless explicitly prohibited. What I have noticed from my own experience that in areas where you try to perform a U-turn some people instead of slowing down DELIBERATELY increase their speed despite some seeing you quite a distance away!

Nearly got wiped out by a stupid woman doing a u-turn at Fourways on Friday evening

      Bob - 2012-06-02 18:36

@Jan, I never mentioned “illegal” U-Turn. I said "dangerous" U-Turn. Inada road in the section mentioned is twisty with blind corners and many blind rises and is 90% a solid white line all the way…! I stay in the area and I know the road!

It is arguable that it was an illegally u-turn. That area (literally 5km from where I live) has a number of large open driveways and it is quite possible the driver tried to go into one of them to do the u-turn, but (besides the breaks in the road lines for the driveways), it is a solid line, because it is a dangerous trun where in the past a number of accidents have happened.

Bob, please contact me as my brother-in-law was in the bakkie.

The dude that was driving the vehicle doing the U-turn was driving recklessly in the area the whole day. He cut off my mother numerous times and nearly caused a number of head-on colissions prior to the accident, through dangerous over-taking. I have no pity or sympathy for people who drive like that and have no regard for their own and others people's lives.

Whay does it say Johannesburg? Waterfall and Crestholme are suburbs in Natal

      Candice - 2012-06-02 20:35

It is because the story came from Johannesburg news headquaters

@jan, i agree with you 100%, you know when you are on the road you are not only responsible for your car only , what i have noticed some drivers they only consider themselves for example if they have a right of way they dont care what other drivers are doing, sometimes we have to be tolerant of other drivers , like you said in this it might be the case.

People!!!Come on..can you all just stop for a second and think about the people that died...about the families that are now grieving... In spite of who is at fault, lives were lost today.... Let's remember that!!

PPL in Durban drive like apes.

      goyougoodthing - 2012-06-03 10:41

Yes they do. As a member of the Durban community I can safely say that 99% of people in this town drive like they own the road.

The worst is the tow truck driver who almost caused multiple accidents on the way to this incident. It is the second time I have seen this idiot with his reckless driving. Does he not realize people are on the roads with their families? (White tow truck with idiot behind wheel)
