3 denied bail in Free State cop murder trial

Bloemfontein – Three men accused of murdering a Free State police officer have been denied bail in the Botshabelo Magistrate's Court this week, the Hawks said on Tuesday.

They appeared on Monday and were expected back in court on Wednesday, said spokesperson S'fiso Nyakane. 

The third suspect, aged 24, was arrested last Thursday.

He was serving his two year sentence in the in the Windburg Correctional services for an unrelated robbery case, said Nyakane.

The other two suspects, aged 25 and 32, were arrested last month.

Constable Johannes Putsoeli, 37, was killed in February this year.

He was found in an open field near Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium in Botshabelo with a stab wound to his upper body.

He was allegedly robbed of his service pistol, cellphone and wallet.
