Bloemfontein - Three men were arrested in connection with the murders of an elderly Trompsburg couple on their farm, Free State police said on Monday.

"Two suspects were arrested after members of the K9 unit received information they were in Bloemfontein," Captain Rulene Kuhn said.

Two men, both aged 27, were arrested in Bloemfontein on Monday, and a third man in Trompsburg. Two firearms allegedly taken from the murder scene were seized.

Johan, 70, and Cecile Fourie, 73, were last seen alive at about 14:00 on Sunday after having lunch with their son in town.

The couple did not answer their two-way radio during a daily security check, nor did they answer their home phone.

Farm security investigated and found their bodies in a bedroom.

Police suspected their attackers gained entry to the house while they were gone and lay in wait for them.

The house was in disarray, with traces of blood everywhere. The safe had been cut open with a grinder.

The three men would appear in the Trompsburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Really!!!!! What an idiot you are, and I don't even have to be a racist to see that. Blaming the victim for the crime? It's like Zuma blaming Verwoerd for the Limpopo textbook crisis.

Well done SAP! How terrified the elderly couple must have been whilst being so brutally murdered. It is tragic loosing our elders like this. Condolences to their family!

Why is everything here turned into something is horrendous when anyone is brutally slaughtered, what does it matter what race they are. This country will never heal as long as its citizens hang on to racial hatred and use it as a scapegoat for every crime committed.

      Piet - 2012-09-13 09:38

My goodness Lynda.... how many more white farmers needs to be brutally slaughtered, before you open your pretty eyes and realise THERE IS A HUGE racial problem???

Now maybe the idiots who claimed that the couple's son had killed his parents for insurance will be big enough to make some form of appology! Not every one else behaves as you would!

To get positive leads in certain murder, rape or other crimes must be one tough task. People are scared to come forth, no fixed addresses and strangers, druggies, thieves and murderers makes any peaceful living a bit too uncomfortable. Well done. This was premeditated 'to wait'. An eye for an eye... nothing less.

Interrogate them and find out WHY they did it, and in such an unnecessarily cruel and sadistic fashion. The motive was NOT robbery, as they had more than enough time to take whatever they wanted and then leave. They drank and WAITED for them to come home, specifically to murder these helpless old folks. The safe was not even unlocked by the farmer, so that's not what they were waiting for either...the murderers CUT the safe open. Get some REAL answers about why these murders are being committed - and on whose instructions...
