Johannesburg - Three men were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms in Tembisa, on the East Rand, on Sunday, Gauteng police said.

The men, aged between 38 and 47, were arrested by the Johannesburg police flying squad around 5am, Captain Pinky Tsinyane said.

Responding to a tip-off, police found four unlicensed firearms in their Red Ford Laser at a petrol station on Brian Mazibuko Drive in Tembisa. They were about to travel to Mpumalanga, allegedly to rob a business.

"No information was given regarding the date, place and how the crime was to be committed," said Tsinyane.

The firearms, gloves, cellphones, and the Ford, were confiscated.

"It will be established if the suspects are linked to other cases," said Tsinyane.

They would appear in the Tembisa Magistrate's Court soon.
