3 hurt in Cape Town mall robbery

2012-10-26 10:17

Cape Town - Three people were wounded in a cash-in-transit robbery at a Cape Town mall, according to a report on Friday.

The Cape Times reported that a security guard had gone to collect money at a store in the N1 City mall on Thursday morning when two gunmen approached him.

A construction worker said one of the men shot the guard in the leg, who managed to return fire.

"I don't know how he took out the gun but he did. He shot [the robber] three times in the chest," the unidentified worker told the newspaper.

A bystander was wounded in the crossfire.

A short while later the other gunman walked out of the mall with a cash box. When he realised his accomplice had been shot he started running.

The injured security guard opened fire on him but he disappeared behind a container and fled.

His accomplice was being held under police guard in hospital.

Janice - sad to say that Cape Town is seen as the most dangerous city in SA at the moment - search on Google and you'll be surprised. It is sad indeed - but with a corrupt police force and government what else is expected?

  • Kawasaki1985 - 2012-10-26 10:27

  • sean.crookson - 2012-10-26 10:35

There has been a dramatic increase in violent crime in the past months. We have experienced it in the southern suburbs. They are letting prisoners out early or on parole who then go on to do terrible things.

  • onlinebaas - 2012-10-26 10:37

Good work for the security guard! - 2012-10-26 11:17

Well done indeed! Please give him a job as a policeman. Not only did he do his job well, he can also aim well.

Why can't skin color be mentioned in robberies in South Africa. Read the American news papers and the skin color is alway mentioned. Name and shame those that did this, and well done to the security guard.

      jack.blacking.56 - 2012-10-26 11:14

Carolyn, the people are very sensative to this kind of topic. We simply cannot mention skin colour. They get very angry you know.

      Andrea - 2012-10-26 12:30

Ja, after Andre Stander ... did we ever hear of another bank being robbed by whites?

      byron.matthews.562 - 2012-10-26 13:10

i have an idea @2 bright sparks wishing apartheid back, at the upcoming elections, just scribble 'i want to be a 2nd class citizen again' next to a box which you tick and cast your vote. Now, in order for this to work, you need to go back home immediately and pack your stuff as you'll be relocated to an area, the first class citizens feel you should be living in so as not to infect them with your "second class-ness".

      sagin.verity - 2012-10-26 17:33

@ byron what class of citizen are You now? and what class is the country you live in now?
