3 injured as bakkie collides with cow in KZN

Durban – Emergency services officials have warned of animals on the road as winter approaches – this after three people were injured when a bakkie collided with a cow in Scottburgh, KwaZulu-Natal.

EMS spokesperson Robert McKenzie on Monday said the incident occurred on Dududu Road, leaving one person seriously injured. Mckenzie said the other two people sustained minor injuries. He added that the bakkie had to be written off.

"Animals on the road become a greater problem, especially as we move into winter... as especially on the rural roads, the animals lie on the tar to keep warm as the tar has retained heat from the sun in the day.

"Stock owners are also reminded to account for all their stock before sunset and make sure fences are kept in good order. Motorists also need to be especially vigilant while driving," McKenzie said.
